About
Yael
Gebhardt (b. 2002) is a video artist based in the Netherlands. Her practice is
deeply rooted in the exploration of emotions. She employs emotion and feeling
as the foundation for her work, using these as a conduit to initiate
significant and impactful dialogues. Her goal is to foster reconnections among
individuals through these conversations. Yael's keen insights into human
emotions and interactions inform her belief that she can facilitate and enhance
communication between people. She posits that the articulation of emotions and
feelings is essential for a profound understanding of oneself and others.
Through
the medium of personal narratives, Yael addresses universal themes, inviting
viewers to introspect and reflect on their own experiences. Her work aims to
bridge the gap between herself and her audience, encouraging them to create
similar connections within their personal relationships.
Yael’s
work is characterized by the integration of text, imagery, and spatial
dynamics, which she uses to weave together personal and societal themes. She
delves into the symbiotic relationship between societal events and personal
experiences, underscoring how personal events can, at times, hold greater
significance than broader societal occurrences. By highlighting personal
stories, Yael seeks to convey the universal, utilizing elements such as her own
archival material and autobiographical narratives.
